Folders are emptied RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

    - Yesterday when I tried to use some of the folders (course summaries, thesis...) in my home PC, I discovered that most of my Mesh directories have been emptied! On my university PC the same thing has happened. (In news pane there is nothing about deletion).

    - Now that I look into mesh I see folders are not empty there but for example if I had a directory called "test" there are now two directories on my "Live Mesh" both with the same name. One is empty, the other is with the files. Because I have hundreds of directories, I do not even know which directories have problem and what files are no more on my PCs.

    - More interesting is that whatever I do, the files which yet exist in "Live Mesh" are not synced to PCs (I wish PCs do not sync to Live and remove the remaining files).

Guys, the number 1 reason for me to use Mesh has been to secure a backup of my files on the internet. However! this same mesh has put all my important files into risk!!! :( :(

I might remove mesh and start using my Thumbdrive again. I guess its more secure.

  • Sorry for this stressful experience. Most likely your files are still on your computer and are located in the Live Mesh Holding Area, under AppData\Local\Microsoft\Live Mesh\GacBase\HoldingArea. Please check if your files are still there and send your logs through Microsoft Connect so we can determine the issue. Most likely, you have uploaded some exception files  in your folders that Live Mesh does not support.

    Thank you,

  • Hello again,

I was wrong. All "Live Desktop" directories are empty! Everything gone! (thesis, papers, course summaries, biblio database).

I don't know what to say!

  • Hello,

    Thank you for your reply.

    - The files in "Live Desktop" returned after a few hours. (I visited again and the folders on "live desktop" were in folders again)

    - The missing files were in the directory you mentioned. Thank you. Filetypes are ".docx", zip, pdf, and endnote database files (.frm, .myi, .myd).

Some other files might be in the "Holding Area" directory in my HomePC (I will check in the evening).

Thank you again for your help.
