Intel DG965 SATA drivers help RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All,
I have tried to find the answer here in the forums, but have been unable to come up with anything.

    I have the following hardware
    P4 3.0GHz
    Intel DG965RY Motherboard
    3x WD 500GB 7200 SATA 2 HDD's
    Asus DVD RW (Lightscribe)

I am having problems detecting the hard drives.  I have the win2003 Intel drivers for the motherboard but I have no idea which of these drivers to use (there are about 60 of them).  Unfortunately I don't have a txtsetup.oem, so every time I try and use any of these drivers I get the unable to find txtsetup.oem message.

If anyone else has successully got this motherboard to work, can you please give me a run down on what I need to do to create a txtsetup.oem file?

    Cheers,
        Iain Bradley

Here is a copy of the TXTSetup.OEM I have from the Intel drivers version 6.0.  Copy and paste the code into a text file and then rename that TXTSETUP.OEM.

Usually the INF files that you are looking for with SATA drives are iaStor.inf and iaAHCI.inf.  The other inf files that you lised in your post are more directly related to processor, PATA devices, and USB devices then SATA drives.

The only unknown at this point is which controller ID your hardware is using.  IE "PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2822&CC_0104”.  If it’s not on the list, we would need to find out what the ID is.

  • I would think the drivers would be readily available online (through automatic update).

If that doesnt help, I would just install all the drivers on this website:
    http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df-external/filter_results.aspx?strTypes=all&ProductID=2377&OSFullName=Windows*+2000&lang=eng&strOSs=19&submit=Go%21

  • As I said I have the drivers (I have even isolated it down to the ICH8 drivers as the important drivers to use for the SATA drives), but I can't seem to install them properly. There are multiple inf files eg.
    ich8core.inf
    ich8ide.inf
    ich8smb.inf
    ich8usb.inf

but none of these lets me see the hard drives to continue the installation.

    edit:
Additionally it always asks for a txtsetup.oem file after I have tried to install any of these files, and Intel doesn't seem to have supplied one --sigh--

    Cheers,
    Iain

  • Iain, you may have to contact Intel to learn how to prepare an "F6 floppy" for installation. I don't see anything in the manual, and if there's nothing on the driver CD that came with the board, that may be your only option.

  • Thanks Ken,
I was quickly coming to that conclusion my self *grin*.

If I get the file, I will post it here for anyone else who uses this motherboard.

    Cheers,

  • I am using an Intel M/B, DG965SS.  I found it quite challenging as well.

    Here is my advice,

If you are using more than 2gb of RAM, you will need to reduce it.  2gb will work fine.  Intel has made several attempts to clear issues with their 965 Chipset.  They are releasing updates very often.  If you haven't all ready, check there website for the most recent BIOS update for your board, I believe the last was 4/13/07 or 4/17/07.  Then, download their updated drivers indicated by the 'CD' icon.  Lastly, make sure you have run the 'INF' update utility (this has been updated as well).  I hope this will help you.

    Take care,

    Sam

  • Thanks Jason,
That seems to have helped - it actually helped me identify that one of my SATA drives is bad.  It got me past the first screen and then I found that the SATA drive in 0 was not registering properly.

I will be playing around tomorrow to find out if it is the motherboard or if it is the drive itself (I have a feeling it is the drive).

I must say that these forums are great.  Everyone is really helpful, and providing intelligent suggestions.  I think this bodes well for the product itself (that I might eventually get to play with soon - Yay!)

    Anyway Cheers everyone.

  • I just posted my install experience's but in short I am using an Intel 945 based board with a Seagate 500gb SATA drive. The only way I could get the install to complete was to change the controller option in the bios to Manual, Legacy and change the drive from AHCI to IDE. Even with using the F6 options I always got a blue screen error in the second portion of the install. After I finally got the install to complete then I could load the chipset inf drivers and the intal matrix drivers.
