N/AMy friend reformatted my computer for me and installed xp but I guess he used the wrong product key. I tried to update it with the updater tool to the product key on the back of my laptop but after I type in my product key, I get an error message that says,
"The product key entered is not a valid key for this system, please check for errors and try again"
The label containing the product key looks genuine, it has the silver genuine lable printed down one side and it says "proof of license certificate of authority" on the other.... what do I do??

I believe you are getting that error becase you have XP Pro installed and the Product Key you are entering is most likely for XP Home.
If the label that has the Product Key says Windows XP Home, then you know why that key will not work in the XP Pro that you currently have installed.
The only way to resolve this would be to install XP Home.
