MCSD SharePoint after MCSD Web through upgrade RRS feed

  • Question

  • I got my MCSD Web status through 70-492 exam (no 70-486 requirements).

Do I need to pass 70-486 exam to get MCSD SharePoint status?

  • I have some experience related to your issue, since I passed 70-492 and I did NOT get the attributions associated with 70-486 and 70-487 (which are supposedly replaced by the 70-492 upgrade exam). In my own case, my specific issue was that, as an MCT, I did not receive the authorization to teach the courses associated with 70-486 and 70-487. I called the RSC and explained my case, and they finally got it fixed... several months later, when I had already given up and taken 70-486. Hopefully the fix was "complete", and not just tailored to my specific case, and now 70-492 really replaces 70-486 for all purposes. But I can't attest to this being the case for the MCSD Sharepoint.

  • Hi, Dmitry.

You do not have to pass 70-486 to earn your MCSD: SharePoint Applications title. As you are aware of, the 70-486 content was included in the 70-492 UPGRADE exam that you passed.

If someone has either the MCPD: Web Developer 4 or the MCPD: Windows Azure Developer certification, he/she can easily upgrade to MCSD: Web Applications by passing 70-480 and 70-492, as stated here:

One helpful tool available is the Certification Planner tool on the MCP member web site. After logging into the MCP site, you can access it here:

WARNING: I posted this question to Larry Kaye (Microsoft employee) on the Born to Learn blog. He told me there was unfortunately an error in the Certification Planner tool that he was going to have fixed by the end of next week. It incorrectly states that 70-492 can substitute for 70-480 and 70-486. However, passing 70-480 is also required besides passing 70-492. Please read the comments to the blog here:

ANSWER to your original question: Assuming you have passed 70-480 and 70-492, you should only need to pass 70-488 and 70-489 to earn your MCSD: SharePoint Applications certification title.

    Good luck!

    Best wishes, Davin Mickelson
