Queries of Windows Index File Behaviour in Remote Session RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi Microsoft Support,

I have some queries about Windows Index File which would index remote user's OST.

    Our Infrastructure:

    1. Users remotes to 1 of the 3 VDAs, with their user profiles roaming to another userstore server. Every time users logon the remote session, user profile is downloaded to the login VDA as temp local user porfile. Upon logoff the remote session, profiles will be updated to the userstore server and the temp local user profile will be deleted.

2 Users will use Outlook 2013. Their Outlook setting is from Exchange with cached Exchange mode, with the OST being redirected to the userstore server within their own userstore profile.

    Findings:

    1. After user login in, we found that on that particular logon VDA, that user’s Outlook ost is being indexed.
    2. As OST is redirected to another network path, every time user login, their OST are not rebuilt.
    3. Users found that they could not perform Advanced Search in Outlook. I believe this requires a complete OST index file so that Advanced Search could perform.
    4. When they instead perform basic search, it will appear "Outlook cannot perform search". And when they click "Search in Exchange", there are search results.

    From our provided Remote Infrastructure:

We want to know whether user's index file will still be present after they logoff the remote session and login again.

    E.g.

    Case 1:

User login to VDA1. He runs Outlook and OST start to be indexed. He remotes long enough so that the OST indexing is complete.

Then he logoff and the next day he login again. Will his Index file still be present in that VDA1?

    Case 2:

User login to VDA1. He runs Outlook and OST start to be indexed. But this time he does not remote long enough so the OST indexing is incomplete.

Then he logoff and the next day he login again. Will his Index file still be present in that VDA1 and continue to index?

    Thanks for your support!
