Streaming via Remote Access RRS feed

  • Question

  • As soon as I clicked in the box to start the question, I got 5 related topics regarding my question.  So read all 5 before commencing....

With "Vail" being able to allow streaming via remote, I thought I'd test this option to see how good/reliable it is, or indeed, if it actually works.

Well it works ok with the lan but via remote access, it does not.  It provides the following link in relation to the error.....

    http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=198053

I do realise that this a only beta, but surely, if Microsoft does not have any information to publish at the moment regarding this error, the link provided should actually go to their usual *blank placeholder" format & not to an actual valid link that takes one to a topic totally unrelated to WHS.

Saying that, is that feature actually enabled within "vail" at this time?

  • The Vail Getting Started Guide has some information about supported and unsupported codecs.
I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)

  • What browser are you using? What kind of media? How were the media files created?

Have you submitted a bug on Connect?

  • I get the same error pointing to the same unrelated page, but only when I try to play back certain .avi video files. For the music files it works, and for some other video files it's fine. I assumed it was a codec problem with the web media player.. :(

  • Thank you Ken.  My fault.  I normally download all docs in relation to Beta versions, but this one slipped past me.  Have read the file & find that it's not available in this beta but it should be on the RTM version.  The videos used in the tests were mpeg-2's.
