Users cannot see projects in SharePoint Permissions Mode RRS feed

  • Question

  • My understanding of SharePoint Permissions Mode is that anyone with Member-type access should be able to see all projects in Project Center. However, after migration from SP2010 (via FluentPro) users can only see projects they are part of (assigned in the project plan.)  Even if I put them in an Owner (Full Control) group.  That seems like Classic Mode, not SharePoint mode.  However, I can confirm that we are in the latter.  Any idea what's going on?

  • Hi Alan,

Welcome to the Sharepoint permissions mode! This is actually how it works: you have to manually add the users to the project in order them to see it, as well as the project site. If you do need a more configurable and flexbile security model, I do advice you to switch to the Project Server permission mode.

  • Thanks Guillaume.  However, none of the links you provided seem to support the point you made. They state that you put users in groups and voila! - they have some sort of access. Can you (or anyone) point me to any kind of documentation that shows that access to projects depends on being added to the project plan?  I'm asking for something definitive because on my (on prem) installation it isn't working that way at all, and the books/pages I read seem to indicate that only SharePoint group membership matters. However, it is working that way on my client's Online install. Thanks again!
