Project 2010 SP1 and June 2011 CU

Question
-
Hi,
i am busy reading up on upgrading project 2010 and project serer 2010 to sp1.
they say the follwoing:
"We strongly recommend that you deploy the June 2011 Cumulative Update for Microsoft Project and Project Server 2010 when you install SP1."
- Is it save to assume that i will first install SP1 and then the CU update?
- Has anyone done this? Any issues?
Thanks

Here are my steps and that worked:
- Stop WWW Publishing Service on Web Server
- Stop MS Project Server Queue Service 2010 on App Server
- On app run SP1
- On app run June CU
- On Web run SP1
- On Web run June CU
- On App Server (Central Admin hosted) run Sharepoint config Wizard
- On Web server run Sharepoint config Wizard
- Verify success status in Central Admin > Upgrade and Migration > check upgrade status
- Verify in Central Admin > Upgrade and Migration > Review Database Status, that 'No action required' is the status of all databases
- Review the upgrade log files located under 14 hive (C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\LOGS\Upgrade-####.log)
- Reboot Servers (Not necessary though)

It can be installed before or after. Just extra updates that was released after SP1
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh272536.aspx
The June 2011 Project Server Cumulative Update is released the same date as the Project Server 2010 Service Pack 1 update. We recommend that you install both. The June 2011 Project Server Cumulative Update contains several fixes and improvements that are not contained in the Project Server 2010 Service Pack 1 update. You can install the June 2011 CU before or after you install the Service Pack 1 Update. For more information about the June 2011 Cumulative Update, see the Updates for Project Server 2010 Resource Center (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=209620).

Hi,
Can you confirm the update sequence for SP1 + June 2011 CU. My question is if I can install all of the updates and then run the Config Wizard at the end or do I have to run it after SP1?
Install Project Server 2010 SP1 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2460047 (Note that this includes SharePoint 2010 SP1)
Don’t run the SharePoint Configuration Wizard
Install Office Servers 2010 Language Pack SP1 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2460056 (Includes Project Server 2010 SP1 Language Pack)
Don’t run the SharePoint Configuration Wizard
Install Project Server 2010 June 2011 CU http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2536600 (includes SharePoint 2010 June 2011 CU)
Run the SharePoint Configuration Wizard

Hi,
Is there any difference on how to upgrade Project Server 2010 to SP1 if the Ms. Project version is still Ms. Project 2007 (Project Server 2010 is running on Backward Compatibility Mode)?
@Albanyuser: What do you mean by Run SP1 on App and on Web?
I look forward to your reply.
Thanks,
Victor

Victor,
Your questions: What do you mean by Run SP1 on App and on Web?
Answer: In a medium or large farm topology, you split up web and appllication tier into multiple servers. That's what I meant. In case of single server topology, you basically run web and application roles on the same server.
On Technet look for medium / large sharepoint farm topology articles.

Ok, i preped my server
made sure my DPM backups is current
ran the wizzard to make sure there is no current issues
Stopped the services (www and something else)
then when trying to install sp1 i click on the sp1 file: "The installation of this package failed" in a "Sharepoint and Project 2010 Service Pack 1 (SP1)" message box
Application log is empty...
ULS logs... i Clicked on it at 10:11am so here is the last few lines of the ULS logs.
Ok, with pasting the uls logs my post is to big... not more that 60 000 caraters allowed... anything i can look for?

Read this blog entry by Adnan. It lists the error when running the updates. Just re-run it.

Do you have to install SharePoint SP1 one first, or does Project SP1 take of that for you?Wednesday, July 6, 2011 7:46 PM

Pawn,
The projectServer 2010 SP1 has the Office Server (Sharepoint) 2010 in it. The new recommendation is to implement Sharepoint 2010 Foundation updates before any Sharepoint 2010 Server updates. (Search the forum for reference links)
- First, install Sharepoint 2010 Foundation SP1
- then Project Server 2010 SP1 (http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=26636) - the filename says OfficeAndProjectserver2010sp1xxxxx.exe
- Then install the June 2011 CU (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2536600)
Thursday, July 7, 2011 2:01 AM -
Ok, i tried to install it again.
With Foundation i get the follwing:
Status Failed Server SVVDAC011
Start 7/12/2011 10:39:05 PM Last Updated 7/12/2011 10:51:49 PM

Command Line C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\BIN\psconfigui.exe
i Did also try and install SP1 and also got errors. Upgrade seem to run fine until i run the wizzard.
1st time the wizzzard fails and second time it passes but i think there is issues...
Items in Log file that i see a few time:

Try to start from begining in your test environment. It might be worth going over the errors. Try the following tools in your troubleshooting:
Sharepoint Farm Features Admin Tool:
http://featureadmin.codeplex.com/
Sharepoint Live Farm ULS Monitoring Tool
http://sharepointlogviewer.codeplex.com/
If nothing works, then I'd suggest working with a MS Partner on this issue or creating a support ticket with Microsoft.
