Automatic Backup stopped working? RRS feed

  • Question

  • All of  sudden WHS did not backup one of my computers.  I looked in the event log and saw:

"Windows Home Server protocol mismatch. This computer uses protocol version 117964824, but partner computer 771c4f1a-30dd-47a4-bdca-1cc16b929bb0 uses protocol version 117964836. A connection cannot be established."

I rebooted and did a manual back up and it worked but WHS does not seem to want to do the auto backup.  Any ideas on what happened?  About the only thing I've changed lately is to keep 5 days versus 3 days of backups.

  • Windows Home Server was recently updated. Do you have automatic updating of the connector on clients turned off? If so you will have to update those clients manually by e.g. visiting http://server:55000 on each client computer and updating the connector from that page.
I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)

  • I have automatic updating turn on on both Client systems.  However, the one that did not do the auto save this morning had been shut off all night.  The other one that still "works" was left on all night by mistake.  Is that what is causing the problem?  Just so you know I'm new at this, http://server:55000 is not recognized when I use IE7 on the client computer.  What am I missing?

  • When you enter http://server:55000 (put in your homeserver's name for server).  Mine is

    http://hpserver01:55000

so I can pickup the new client software from my WHS.

  • Ok, I'm a dummy!  I did the http://"myservername":55000 and was able to connect to my WHS server.  It uninstalled the Connector Software on the client and reinstalled it.  We'll see tomorrow morning if WHS returns to it's old ways and does an automatic back up like it is supposed to do.  Actually, it looked like the Connector Software had already been updated on the client since the error message went away when I rebooted earlier and there was a folder Program Files/Windows Home Server/upgrade dated today at 4;48 AM... but... for some reason WHS did not feel the need to do an automatic backup today??!
