  • What thread?  Upper right inside "My Form Links", click on My Settings.  Turn on "Always alert me by default when I post".  Click on "Configure alerts" if necessary if you haven't yet setup an alert email address.  You'll now get notifications when a moderator moves your thread to another forum or deletes duplicate threads.  You have been posting a lot of duplicates, please stop doing so.

  • When you have signed in to forums and when you are viewing a thread, or the list of threads in a particular forum such as http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/reportabug/threads/, you should see “My Forum Links” on the right (below the “Sign out” link and your user name). One of the options listed is "My Settings."

As you may know by now, the forums are experiencing certain issues, and has been for a few days following an update.

If you are thinking of the process when Microsoft abandoned NNTP, I think “coolness” was one reason (as forums and communities are more popular than text-based UseNet messages!). But it was also a matter of control, I believe. Unlike UseNet newsgroups, Microsoft has full control over these forums.

For what it’s worth, you can still access the Word groups, via Google (https://groups.google.com/grphp?hl=en-ustab=wg) or an NNTP newsreader and a free server such as Eternal September (see http://www.eternal-september.org/). There are a lot less people asking questions nowadays, but some still do. :-)
