Vista Validation not working after running recovery disc (Toshiba A300-35) RRS feed

  • Question

  • So a co-worker handed me her daughters computer that was totally crashed out (a bunch of missing files in her registry).  I managed to save the important stuff but wasn't able to make the recovery discs from the computer.  A friend had a model down (both are store bought, nothing fancy computers) the Toshiba A200 so I ran his thinking / operating under the assumption that both computers were running Vista Home Premium 32 bit op systems (both computers had the factory stickers but the descriptions were too faded to read).  Apparently their not.  According to Toshiba.ca the A300 is supposed to be running 64bit along with a bunch of other hardware that doesn't exist on the computer (HDMI, Fingerprint Reader, IR, etc).

So my question is - if this is supposed to be 64 can I get a copy of the operating system disc(s) (without purchasing it / them) to use with the CD key I already have?  can I download them somewhere?  is there a way to "upgrade"  or get a key that works on a 32 bit op system?

    Thanks,
    Justin

  • Hi Justin,

You would first want to check if Toshiba can provide a replacment copy of the recovery software for that specific model of Laptop.

Other then that, the only of guidence I can give are to direct you to the below support docs:

    Replace Software:
KB326246 "How to replace Microsoft software or hardware, order service packs and product upgrades, and replace product manuals" http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/326246

    Replace Product Key:
KB811224 "How to identify, locate, and replace a product keyhttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/811224

Sorry I couldn't be more help,

  • So I've talked to Toshiba and they've told me that I need to make the discs myself (which of course I can't do and would have done if this was my computer).  They've prompted me to look at their driver website (which would be helpful if I could find a copy of Vista Home 64 bit).

Anyone have any ideas on how to get one?  Anyone ever traded a 64 bit key for a 32 bit key (that would make my life a heck of a lot easier) or vise versa?

    Thanks.

  • Hi Justin,

I can not refer you to 3rd part websites (policy) but I am pretty sure there are sites that have copies of the recovery software available for download. I don't know if they are safe nor if they even have the software for your specific laptop model.

If Dan from IT Associates sees this thread (he is a regular contributer in these forums) he may be able to offer some advice.

Again, sorry I couldn't be more help,
