  • Hello mcgregor83,

This line in the report above "Windows License Type: OEM System Builder" means that the product key used to install the current installation of Windows XP Pro was printed on a Certificate of Authenticity and that CoA should be affixed to your ToughBook.

Your title says that you purchased the laptop with XP already installed.  But, since you were not given the CoA and the genuine Microsoft hologrammed XP Pro installation CD along with the product key (which would have constituted a licensing kit), you did not get a license to run XP on this computer.  If the transaction you made with the seller was supposed to have included a legal license for the XP installation now on your computer, you did not get what you paid for, so I would think you would want to take that issue up with the seller.

Without a CoA and the genuine Microsoft installation disc, yoou did not get a Windows license for this computer.  Right now your XP installation is showing as Genuine but that is only because you are a beneficiary of the "slack" built into the Product Activation and Windows Genuine Advantage systems.

  • Hello mcgregor83,

Look on the computer for a Certificate of Authenticity (CoA).

What version and edition of Windows is listed on the CoA?

On the second line  of the CoA, under the version and edition, is there a computer manufacturer's name printed?  Or does is read "OEM Software" or "OEM Product?"

Please do not post any product key that you may find printed on the CoA.
