OS X Mountain Lion - No worky on WHS 2011 or WHS v1 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have two WHS servers, one WHS v1 and a new one that's WHS 2011...trying to get a mac that WAS on OS X 10.5.8 (and didn't work then either) but is now on Mountain Lion to just use EITHER of the WHS servers for time machine backups...

Tried setting time machine to allow network drives...no go.

The POS (Mac) sees both shares on both servers that I've setup for time machine...still nothing.

    Anyone been successful at this?

  • Time Machine requires the Apple network filling protocol (AFP), which is not supported by WHS (2011 or v1). Older MAC OS Releases also allowed a Time Machine backup via the SMB protocol, that's why it worked before 10.7. For Linux there is an open source AFP implementation available (called "netatalk"), so many NAS devices can offer a Time Machine backup. Unfortunately, there is no Windows port of netatalk.
