Non Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium

Question
-
I began getting nag screens saying that this copy of Windows 7 is not genuine. I have been up on numerous forums looking for answers and have not found one. I have my original CD from Lenovo with the Windows 7 HomePremium Edition. Iv'e tried many of the online suggestions including, sfc /scan now, slui.exe, to even trying to change the product key, to no avail. The following is the MGA diag run this AM.

I ran sfc /scannow and the "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations". I followed it up with the below MGADiag. Additonal to the nag screen, there is now text in the lower right hand corner of the monitor that say's "Windows 7, Build 7600, This copy of Windows is not genuine". This all started sometime in early December prior to that I had no problems.

There are three more options:-a. Replace the effected files with copies from a known good installation of Windows or from a Windows 7 disk (not a Recovery disk) - this may or may not work, and is fairly complex because of the built-in file protection of Windows - it's easiest done from outside the Windows installation. If you want details, post backb. The two remaining problems are ....1) You don't seem to have done any Updates to the system yet. Visit Windows Updates, and install all the available recommended )or higher priority) updates, then please download install and run Belarc Advisor to check on the status of the updates, and reinstall any that are flagged as broken. (www.belarc.com). (That's the cause of the mismatched files - missing the WAT update KB971033)2) You still have that non-genuine Office installation to deal with - how you do that is up to you.Otherwise, it looks good to me :)Nice work - Good Luck!

Thnk you,

Your have a couple of problems here...1) you seem to have neglected to Activate your installation of Windows2) you have a non-genuine version of Office installed. The Office problem can be ignored for the moment - it's not relevant to the Windows problem. The Windows problem appears to be that there is a fault in the registry, causing the SLUI processes not to work properly - the easiest solution for this is to use System Restore to go back to a date (about 3 days before) the system worked properly. The reason for the 3-day 'cushion' is that it can take up to three days for Windows to discover the fault, due to the fact that the checking process doesn't run all the time.If for some reason System restore fails to solve the problem, please post back with another MGADiag report - it may still have changed the error process.

I ran a restore from December and got the same dialog box. Is there a way to activate this copy without doing a clean install? I even tried to Activate it from the System folder, but the link to activate and the link to change the product number does not work.Sunday, February 6, 2011 2:00 AM

Try a System File Checker - it will attempt to replace the broken file and any others it finds.
System File Checker - Instructions
Click on the Start button
type in the Search box
CMD.EXE
right-click on the only file that is found
Select Run as Administrator
- the Elevated Command Prompt window should pop up
At the Command prompt, type
SFC /SCANNOW
and hit the Enter key
Wait for the scan to finish - make a note of any error messages - and then reboot.
run another MGADiag report, and post the results.

Contact Microsoft Assisted Support for further assistance with the issue.North America: http://support.microsoft.com/contactus/cu_sc_genadv_master?ws=support&ws=support#tab4Outside North America:
http://support.microsoft.com/contactus/?ws=support#tab0c. Reinstall Windows. - best advice is probably to post in the Win 7 Repair Answers forum here .... http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7repair/threadsGood Luck

I'm assuming I'll have to do a CleanInstall rather than merely an upgrade, which is what was done initially to remove XP. Is that correct?Sunday, February 6, 2011 7:42 PM

No - you should be able to do an In-place Upgrade (MS-speak for a repair install). If you are not offered the option for this during the install, do NOT proceed, as it will wipe all your data.As I say - best ask in the Answers forum, as they have a lot more experience than I do. Make sure you mention that your license is an OEM one, as it does (I think) make a difference in the procedures.

Just to let you know I reinstalled Win7 using the upgrade method, and activated it during the install. Here is the latest {and hopefully the last) MGADiag report.
