Spreading the backup around - backup function question. RRS feed

  • Question

  • I just added two additional 500Gb drives to my HPEX475 for a total of 2TB of storage.  When my system conducts the backup function I am not seeing the new drives being utilized.  I mounted the new drives and they are recognized in the system, plus I can write data to them.  HP told me that backup function only writes data to the system drive.  IF that is so, why buy additional drives?  I have a total of 8 computers that need backup function so I really need the backup to utilize all drives.  Suggestions?

  • Hello,
    this is normal behaviour.
WHS will fill the most used disk first, and then jump over to the next. Only shared folders with duplication on will also use a second disk.
WHS will also try to keep the D: drive almost empty (with Power Pack 1 installed), but will not by itself move files around, which are already stored there.
If you want to trigger this, you can try LZreallocator.
    Best greetings from Germany
