Status Fair because of Online Photo Backup Subscription Expired RRS feed

  • Question

  • Each of the computers in my onecare circle are showing as a status of fair due to "Your Online Photo Backup subscription has expired". When I renewed my onecare license I chose not to renew the online photo backup which I'd previously subscribed to since I chose an alternative online backup solution. I still want the system to monitor other backups to NAS which are configured and are working. In Onecare | Change Settings | Backup | Online backup is turned off for this PC and all PC's in the circle.

How do I tell it to forget about the online photo backup so that my status can be reflected correctly?

  • Hello Darren, on each computer where you were using Online Photo Backup open One care>Change Settings>Backup>Configure Backup, under "One Care Online Photo Backup" uncheck "Automatically back up photos from this PC".

  • Thankyou for the suggestion. I have followed your advise, however I do not have a checkbox to uncheck.

From the main Windows Live OneCare screen I click "Change settings" which is situated just under a heading Quick links, this takes me to the Windows Live OneCare Settings screen, a number of tabs one of which is "Backup", under the section "Backup settings" there is a button titled "Configure backup...", clicking this takes me to the Windows Live OneCare Backup Configuration screen, by default is goes to Backup plan for all PCs, in the section OneCare Online Photo Backup the following text appears, "Online photo backup is turned off as your Online subscription has expired. Please go to the main page to renew." There are 3 PCs in my circle, MediaPC, Silverlaptop and Acerlaptop, the OneCare Online Photo Backup information is different if I select an individual pc.

MediaPC - Automatically back up photos from this PC is unchecked, also has text below that says Choose photos to exclude. I cannot either check or uncheck this box as it is greyed out, to reinforce, is currently unchecked.

Silverlaptop - As above but does not have "Choose photos to exclude", is unchecked and greyed out.

Acerlaptop - Exactly the same as Silverlaptop

    Any new suggestions please?

  •  On the main backup tab for Change Settings, below Backup Settings, what is shown in the OneCare Online Photo Backup section? Is there a button and text?

If you are unable to access the settings for Photo Backup as you describe and there is nothing in the main page for you to choose to unsubscribe or cancel the photo backup, please contact support.

  • Within the backup tab, at the bottom is a section OneCare Online Photo Backup, it has the following text, Online photo backu is turned off for this PC as your Online subscription has expired. Please go to the main page to renew. There is also a button titled "Clean up online photo backup...". I've done a cleanup, this didn't help.

Will follow the link you've provided to reach support.

  • If you can't get through to support easily, please send me an email - sboots@mvps.org - paste a link to this thread and use "OneCare Photo Backup" in the subject line. Let me know your country, too.

I've not seen what happens at expiration for Photo Backup, so I don't know what "main page" is being referenced by that dialog. Perhaps something in the details for your PC (if this is a Hub PC) on the main OneCare screen?

  • By the way, is it yellow status on all of the PCs in the Circle? Or only the Hub or those where Photo Backup was configured to backup photos from?

I wonder if reinstalling OneCare on a PC that shows yellow status might fix it?

  • Thanks for the prompt replies Stephen, you've helped me once before previously also and it is greatly appreciated. The yellow fair rating is showing on two pc's, which both used online photo backup, the third pc is used infrequently so has an Unknown Status, not been turned on since 8th December.

I had thought of going to the reinstall path but would prefer not to since I have other projects today (Windows 7 on a different non circle pc). Am in the process of logging OneCare support call so will see where that ends up before bothering you further.
