IsMandatory option in the Patch Configuration Tool config file RRS feed

  • The CRM 4.0 Implementation Guide talks about the IsMandatory field in the
    config file for the Patch Configuration Tool like this:
    "If you specify true, the update will be configured as a mandatory update.
    If you specify false, the update will not be configured as a mandatory
    update. The default value is false."

    That description not extremely helpful.  How does the Outlook client act
    when "the update will be configured as a mandatory update"?

    I read that the Outlook client will check for updates on a specified
    interval and notifies the end user when one becomes available.  Does this
    only happen when the IsMandatory option is set to true?

  • Hi,

    As far as I remember the mandatory option does what it says, makes the patch mandatory to run the client.

    When the new patches are discovered a dialog is shown to the user containing the patches available to be installed. If the update is mandatory the user must install it in order to continue using the CRM Outlook Client, otherwise the application will not be loaded.

    The check for Updates can happen when the user runs the Update tool (installed along the Outlook Client), when the user starts the Outook Client or each 4 hours if the Outlook Client is running (this is configurable with Registry Keys). I think that IsMandatory has no impact on this checks.
