Re: Anti-virus and spyware protection doesn't want to turn on. RRS feed

  • Question

The same exact thing happen to me this morning and I have tried EVERYTHING that one care suggests in their help menu.  None of the suggestions have fixed the problem.  I am very frustrated at this point and am not crazy about the suggestion to uninstall and reinstall the program.  What is the point of customer support if you are forced to do that??

  • momommy,

I split your post off of the thread that you replied to as that forum topic folder is old and closed. I've moved it to the current Virus and spyware topic folder.

I'm sorry that you encountered a problem with OneCare. I don't know what the help menu dialog suggested for you to try, but you can try the Virus and Spyware repair tool - http://forums.microsoft.com/WindowsOneCare/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2667445&SiteID=2 - to fix the problem. I would also suggest that you verify that the date and time on your computer are correct.

Reinstalling the program is a last resort, but is often faster than trying to diagnose why it broke to begin with if the standard fixes don't work. Has anything changed on your PC prior to the error you've encountered with OneCare? Anythng new installed or updated?

You mention customer support. Have you contacted them for help? As a subscriber, you have access to phone, chat, and email support once your subscription is validated.

  • The time and date on my laptop are correct.  I have attempted the following things; boot.ini repair, antimalware repair, stop start winss, basically everthing that the help center suggests.  Then I actually went in to do a live chat, the system ran some disgnostics on my computer and when it told me to return to my web browser to continue with support I got an error message.  The service request number is 1066160503.  Can you help??

  • Since you went to the support page and the subscription validated, did you also see the option for phone support? I would recommend calling. If you mean that you encountered an error before seeing the support options, please send me an email - sboots@mvps.org - use "OneCare" in the subject line of the message, tell me what country you are in, and copy and paste this link in the message body: http://forums.microsoft.com/WindowsOneCare/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=3281540&SiteID=2
