Windows 7 not genuine after Asus repair... RRS feed

  • Question

  • i have an Asus EeePC 1005HAB.  i was running windows XP, which the computer came with, for a year or so when it suddenly became corrupted.  i sent it back to Asus and the company returned my computer to me with windows 7 installed. i thought, sweet, free upgrade... until, after about a month, i got a message asking me to activate windows.  i tried to do this and i keep getting an error saying my copy of windows is not valid.  diagnostic tool results below.  i called Asus and they told me i'd have to send it back AGAIN for them to reinstall windows XP.  is there anything else i can do?  i really don't want to send it back again.  thanks!!

  • Send it back.  Asus has to make good on their warranty.

  • If you don't want to return the PC to Asus there is another option you can try first. Try changing the product key to the one listed on the sticker (known as a CoA SLP key) on the side, bottom or (for some laptops) in the battery compartment of the PC.

To change the Product key click the ‘Start’ button, right-click ‘Computer’, select ‘Properties’ and then click ‘Change Product Key’ (located in the lower right-hand side of the window). Enter the COA SLP key and follow the instructions in the Change Product Key Wizard.

    Thank you,
