OneCare Backup Encryption RRS feed

  • Question

  • Is the data that is backed up encrypted in any way, either in the backup files themselves and/or in the transmission to the NAS?  I am concerned as to what happens if someone were to steal my NAS drive with all my backups -- would they have unlimited access to all my data?  I have seen nothing written on this anywhere.

  • One Care backups are not encrypted. If your backups were lost the data could easily be accessed.

  • This is a MAJOR flaw with the program, unless there is some easy way to encrypt the portable drive generically.  Is there a way?

  • There may be a way but I don't know of a way that wouldn't interfere with the One Care backup and restore functions.
