Reporting counterfeit software. RRS feed

  • Question

  • When I try to fill out the counterfeit software report and go to enter the "Where did you purchase your copy Office" drop down entry I'm immediately sent to the following link:

    https://www.microsoft.com/library/errorpages/smarterror.aspx?aspxerrorpath=/genuine/office/PurchaseInfoReport.aspx

I cannot finish the report. What am I doing wrong?

    Thanks

Please have a look at this snippet of your report:

Darin Smith of MSFT has informed me that the the site that you are trying to access (piracy report & request for complimentary replacement software) requires valid and functional Active-X controls on order to function correctly.  We believe that your issue revolves around the fact that OGA version listed in the second paragraph above is an older version of the Active-X control and that the digital signature for this Active-X control is not properly signed.

My first instinctive reaction would be to have you reinstall the Office Genuine Advantage active-X controls.  This should happen when you visit www.microsoft.com/genuine and click on the Validate Office button, and should also have happened when you ran the online diagnostic, but here we are after doing both things, still with that bad Active-X control.

Since we've exhaused the "quick fix" stuff we can do here in the forum, my suggestion to you would be to take advantage of Microsoft's free email tech support for OGA issues by submitting a request for support at this link:  https://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?gprid=11482&st=1  When you fill out the request, you can include a link to this thread so that the tech support staff can see what you've already described and view your mgadiag reports.

Good Luck and please come back here when it's fixed to tell us what they did and how they did it :-)

  • Hello Bishoop,

Where are you filling out the counterfeit report? there are a few places it can be done and I need the URL of the one having problems.  If possible, it may also help if you provide the URL of the page that had the link to that report submission page.

    Thank you,
    Darin MS

  • Here's the URL of the page where I started the the counterfeit report process.

    http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/office/nonGenuine.aspx?displaylang=en&cCode=USA&sGuid=4b17fbb9-c53b-4d05-a5f0-97b7204ad6dd&submit=1

The link to the page for starting the report is:

submit a qualifying counterfeit report and located on the right hand side of the page.

    This is the next URL:

    http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/office/QualifyInfo.aspx?displaylang=en&cCode=USA&sGuid=4b17fbb9-c53b-4d05-a5f0-97b7204ad6dd

At the bottom of this page you click on "Continue" and are directed to this URL

    https://www.microsoft.com/genuine/office/PurchaseInfoReport.aspx?displaylang=en&cCode=USA&sGuid=4b17fbb9-c53b-4d05-a5f0-97b7204ad6dd

On this page you put a check in the "Yes, I wish to take advantage of the special offer shown above by providing my shipping information and submitting an online counterfeit report. I understand Microsoft may contact me regarding this report." box.

After checking the box the information to fill in appears on this same page.

The first bit of information you are asked for is:

    How did you acquire Office?

Where did you purchase your copy of Office? *

There is a drop down list to select an answer.  As soon as you make a selection you are redirected to:

    https://www.microsoft.com/library/errorpages/smarterror.aspx?aspxerrorpath=/genuine/office/PurchaseInfoReport.aspx

No matter what choice is selected the results are the same, redirection to the URL listed just above.  I've tried to make the report in both Firefox and IE.

    Any help is appreciated.

  • Hi Bishoop,

      I think we have success.

It appear that I finally got in contact with the correct person since she have informed me that they just found a certificate issue (of some sort) with the page, that has now been fixed.

Please clear your temp internet files and cookies again and give it another try. I am confident it should work now.

Sorry I had such a problem getting this cleared up for you,

  • Sorry, still the same result in Firefox.  Using IE8 I get the error message:

Your machine is unable to run the components required to complete the ordering process for the Office Genuine Advantage Kit. It appears that the ActiveX control cannot run properly on your machine.

This error is at URL https://www.microsoft.com/genuine/office/PurchaseInfoReport.aspx?displaylang=en&cCode=USA&sGuid=f5226d2b-4aae-438c-aa50-267e834353b8

Am I the only one having this problem?

    Very frustrating.....

  • Now both Firefox and IE8 act the same when I go to page:

    https://www.microsoft.com/genuine/office/PurchaseInfoReport.aspx?displaylang=en&cCode=USA&sGuid=f5226d2b-4aae-438c-aa50-267e834353b8

    "Ordering Process Unavailable"

Your machine is unable to run the components required to complete the ordering process for the Office Genuine Advantage Kit. It appears that the ActiveX control cannot run properly on your machine.

How can something that should be so very easy, be so very difficult?

    More and more frustrated....

  • Hello Bishoop,

Could you visit the online diagnostic page here http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/diag/default.aspx?  and run the diagnostic utility?  It checks to make sure that IE and Windows are properly configured to run the Validation utilities.  Maybe it might pick up on something that we have overlooked so far...?

  • Both IE8 and Firefox pass all sections except the last one which they both fail: "Microsoft Genuine Advantage plug-ins connect with Microsoft validation servers". I disabled the Windows 7 firewall and they both still fail. I do not use a proxy server. Anymore suggestions? Thanks

  • Hello Bishoop,

Please download and run the Genuine Diagnostics tool at this link http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012. Click the "Continue" button, click the "Copy" button, then paste the report into your post.

Would you be able to move the computer to a location that has a different ISP that the one that it's connected to now?

  • Thank you for posting that Dan.

Note: There is another WGA Support URL http://support.microsoft.com/gp/contactwga that has a wider range of support options (mail, phone, chat).  The Support is for Windows Genuine Advantage, but I am pretty sure they will support Office Genuine Advantage issues, as well.
