Windows Activation failed with error 0XC8000247 after restore to new hard drive RRS feed

  • Question

  • I had my original Windows 7 hard drive start to fail with bad sectors.  I have a backup from Norton Ghost 15 that I used to restore to a new hard drive.  When running Window after the restore I started get a warning that Windows was not genuine.  I followed the online instructions and downloaded the WindowsActivationUpdate.exe and ran it but it failed with "Update Installation failed.  Error Information - 0XC8000247.  I ran a sfc /scannow and the issue it found was with tcpmon.ini (which I believe has to do with an unrelated printer issue).

I ran the mgadiag tool and it found file mismatch errors which I researched and read the related posts and tried installing the Intel Rapid Storage Drivers as suggested for others in a similar situation. I downloaded and ran the iata89enu.exe from Intel which completed with no errors and I rebooted twice as suggested.  I re-ran the mgadiag tool and got the same errors as before.  I have posted the results below.

  • Okay, I got the problem solved.  I reviewed the previous posts for the same issue and determined that I had downloaded the wrong version of the Intel Rapid Storage Drivers.  The links in some of the older posts did not work so I searched on Intel's site but that lead me astray.  I found a current link, downloaded the drivers, installed and rebooted (twice).  The Windows activation now works and I can download updates again.

I have included the most recent output from mgadiag for reference below.  My thanks goes to the previous posters for their contribution in resolving my issue.
