Hard Drive Not Added RRS feed

  • Question

  • First, I have 3 internal SATA2 drives in my server.  I have 2 identical WD My Books, 250GB each.  I connected them to WHS and both are in the 'connected' list.  One has been added to the storage pool but the other never has the 'add' button available.  Read here somewhere that it's better to add pairs of drives (and the My Book would have been 5).  So I dug out a spare 250GB drive and put it in an enclosure I had laying around and attached it to the server.  The new drive was allowed to join the storage pool right away, but the My Book still has no 'add' button.  It's formatted NTFS and Disk Management says it's healthy.  What could be the problem?

  • The problem is probably aliens, or solar flares.

    Questions:

    1) Have you tried rebooting the server?

    2) What happens if you unplug the problem drive?

    3) What happens if you plug the problem drive into a different USB port?

    4) Does the problem drive have a drive letter assigned?

  • Removed the drive, rebooted the server and plugged it back in a different USB port and it worked.  Thanks.
