Was it the survey notification? I don't see the ad that you mention. The survey notification does pop up, but it comes and goes.
What does the ad look like? What does it say? Where is it? Does it pop up?
For "My Forums", that seems to only exist in specific areas.
For example, it's not on Microsoft Forums home page: http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/categories
But you can click the "My Forums" link on the right on that page to go there: http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/user/forums
On the TechNet Forums home page, you also get a "My Recent Forums" tab in the middle: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-us/categories/
And you also get that tab on the MSDN Forums home page: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-us/categories/
Does this help?

I can no longer see the pane where My Forums/Threads/etc... are listed.
Using which browser? If IE you could try turning off CSS by using View, Style, No Style (Alt-V,y,N), then see if anything more shows up which was being hidden by bad formatting. Otherwise post a link to a screenshot of what you are seeing. For example, copying a link to your post (Alt-d, Ctrl-c) and then launching a window in InPRivate Browsing mode (Ctrl-Shift-P) to open it in (Ctrl-v, Enter) could satisfy your (loose IMO) symptom description (since I would have to login again to see those links.) ; }---

What do you mean by 'ads at the bottom'? The only ads in forums are in the right rail when you aren't signed in. Do you mean surveys? If you say 'no' you shouldn't be bugged again for that particular survey. We have about three of them running now though, so you may need to decline multiple times.

Looks like some new ad by microsoft platform was enabled in both IE and Firefox. These keep popping up and interfering with my browsing.
I have opted out where I can - but it still pops up occasionally. Not an issue with the Forums, I just noticed it because I was only seeing it when I was in the forums.
Thanks,
Jeff
