  • I suspect that the reason is that they don't currently have any other exam that deals with the basics of ASP.NET. Even though 70-486 has a few questions that are specific to MVC, a large part of the exam deals with general ASP.NET functionality that would be relevant to any type of ASP.NET applications, including Sharepoint.

  • Hi, Stephan1024.

You can create an MVC Web application as a "SharePoint 2013 App" using VS 2013. This one little feature must be why MCSD for SharePoint need to pass the MVC exam. See the two pictures for the menu items in VS 2013.

    Good luck!

  • Note, however, that exam 70-486 is, as of this writing, still based on Visual Studio 2012 (not 2013). Although VS 2012 includes an option to create applications for Sharepoint 2010, they do not use MVC. And anyway, this feature is not covered in the "Skills Measured" of exam 70-486.

  • Hi All,

Alberto is correct about exam 70-486 being based on Visual Studio 2013. Please note that updates to the exam will go live in the next month or two. Here is a link to the post by Larry Kaye (one of the planners at Microsoft Learning) about the update:

Mike Corkery, MCT, MVP (Office Systems), MCSD (Windows Store Apps), MCITP, MCPD, MSF, etc. Please do not forget to click “Vote as Helpful” if any post helps you and "Mark as Answer”if it solves the issue.
