MSMoneyQuotes - Missing UK Fund Data? RRS feed

  • Question

  • A few months ago I started using MSMoneyQuotes with the UK version of MS Money 2005. All my funds and shares were found and their prices updated.

Just recently 11 of my UK funds have shown the message "Invalid quote data" when running MSMoneyQuotes. When I go to MSN Money and search for a quote e.g. GB00B76V7Q08, the fund is found on MSN Money but the message "Data not available" is shown. Does this mean MSN Money is no longer providing quotes for many UK funds in which case I can no longer rely on using MSMoneyQuotes?

This just started happening to me with US fund data using US version of MS Money Sunset Deluxe.  My workaround is hleOfxQuotes.

  • I have also found that MSMoneyQuotes has stopped updating many of my US funds.  This started for one fund on 9/7/2018 and for several others on 9/19/2018.  I ran MSMoneyQuotes with the -v option and the it shows that the symbols for all the funds are resolved, but the funds with missing quotes report "Invalid quote data".  Any suggestions on how to resolve this?

  • I have been having this same problem but with only one of my UK funds. It started on 7/8/2018. I have twice reported this using the feedback option on MSN Money, but with no result. Perhaps if more users complained in this way something might get done??

  • Unfortunately the MSN Money quote web service currently seems to be having problems with mutual funds.

Here's an example response.  In this case, it's not returning a "Nav"value for the Vanguard Growth Index fund.  Nav is the funds net asset value (it's "last" price).

It should look like the response for the Fidelity Asia fund, which is properly returning a Nav value.

I'm hoping they'll fix it.  I can't do anything about it.  Sorry.

Btw, this is affecting the Windows 10 Money app as well.  You'll see the same problems if you add the symbol to your Watchlist there.  So if you complain to Microsoft, perhaps reference the Windows 10 app as it may get you more leverage.

  • Thanks!  I didn't think it was the Gaier software.  I spend a hour or so with Microsoft chat support and got nowhere.  They finally gave me a phone number to call.  Like, really?  I should spend another hour trying to explain the issue on a phone call?

I did find this on the Microsoft Community:

    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/newmsn/forum/newmsn_browse-newmsn_browsver-newmsn_browseraq_ie/why-is-msn-money-not-updating-mutual-fund-prices/9b534a34-2332-438f-92d0-d51cfab0af9f

but no answer so far.  You can click on "I have the same question" to upvote it.  Looks like the MSN Money app doesn't have many users who pay attention to price quotes.

MSN's quote data is provided by Morningstar.  If the phone number they gave you is for Morningstar, I wouldn't bother calling.  I've reached out to them and they referred me back to MSN.  Typical finger-pointing!

What are the symbols on some of the US funds? I was wondering if I could see a pattern.

Well isn't that interesting?  Came home from work to give you a list of a handful of US fund symbols but now only one is showing "invalid quote data."  Let's revisit this in the new trading week and I'll be happy to oblige (touch wood we're over it).

  • Yep, all mine are now working also.  Looks like MSN fixed it within the past hour or so.
