Lookup not working

Hello,
When someone clicks on schedule in Service Activities and clicks to lookup the service or the resource and selects one it fails to actually select it. It just leaves the box blank. This seems to be a problem that around half the users are having, they should all be on the same machine.
Does anyone know where to start with this?

CRM version?
this happens with Internet Explorer or also with other browsers?
Maybe it's related to the windows update KB3008923, if the users that have issues have it installed, uninstall it.

CRM 2011 on premises.
It happens to users on IE.

you can hide the update (right click on the update -> hide) in order to don't be prompted for installation again
