Hi, I'm getting the genuine advantage validation error. My Vista locked me out of my computer for the past two days and today has magically allowed me to log back in as if nothing happened. After looking into this some more I discovered that I can no longer access my control panel, and sometimes the "you might be a victim of fraud" message pops up.
I ran the diagnostic tool (report below) and from reading other threads I can extrapolate that my problem is probably because "rpcrt4.ll" has been corrupted. (Reference: http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/genuinevista/thread/7d431910-ba29-4461-a3e1-29b28a4b9ce1/)
MY CONCERN
Before I apply the solutions mentioned in that thread, I'm cocerned with the fact that the main solution for this is related to update KB933729 - with which I am either supposed to install KB933729 or uninstall then reinstall the update (if this update is already installed in my system).
I cannot do either because when I try to install this update it appears as if this is already installed (I get the message "This update does not apply to your system"), but when I go to uninstall this update, I don't actually have any updates to uninstall. My system only shows TWO installed updates (which is not possible because I've installed every one):
a. KB959487
b. Dell Support Center Upate 2.2.08100
There was another solution recommended where I should re-install SP1, BUT this didn't seem to solve the problem for the original poster (it took down his internet connection), so I don't want to do it until I give you guys some more background information (and hopefully some more insight into my problem).
ADDITIONAL BACKGROUND INFO
It might also be interesting to note the following:
1. In my diagnostic results below, my validation status is "Genuine" - but this is only the case when I run the MGADT in Safe Mode. When I log on in regular mode my diagnostic report says that the validation status is not valid (or whatever it's supposed to say, I forgot the exact wording)
2. I could only run MGADT using Firefox. IE explorer very often runs into a 504: bad gateway error whenever I try and connect to the microsoft site (but only the microsoft site, and only sometimes).
3. None of my system restore points work.
4. Norton Internet Security 2009 cannot install any of the most recent live updates.
5. I've noticed from the MGADT report below my licensing software service is currently not running.
I'm not sure if any of these points are related to the fact that rpcrt4.dll pertains to network security and thus in it's semi-corrupted state, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't, but I AM sure that this situation SUCKS.

It appears you are having other issues within your system as well. Internet Explorer should not be presenting you with errors. At this point I would contact Dell Technical Support because you have Vista OEM version installed. The other option would be to perform a complete system recovery using the Recovery Software or the hidden partion where it is stored on your system. You can reach Dell @ (800) 624-9896. Also I will provide you with Dell links:
