Windows 7 Ultimate Genuine Validation error RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi, I bought a new PC with a pre-installed version of Windows 7 Ultimate some months ago. Last week, I suddenly had that alert message saying that my copy of Windows is not genuine.

I had a similar problem some weeks ago, but I resolved the issue uninstalling a KB entry (KB971033). After doing that, the online genuine validation said it was all right.

Now there's no way of doing this anymore.

    Can you help me?

    Here is my MGADiag log:

Yep - the Key showing here is the Default (Keyless Install) Key.
You need to now change the Key to the one on your Win 7 package (either the COA sticker on the machine's case, or the sticker in the DVD case if you bought a retail Win7 pack) - use the link at the bottom of the System Properties page for this.

    Your licensing store is corrupt
    Recreate the Licensing Store
        1) Click Start button.
        2) Type: CMD.exe into the 'Search programs and files' field
        3) Right-Click on CMD.exe and select Run as Administrator
        4) Type: net stop sppsvc   (It may ask you if you are sure, select yes)
Note: the Software Protection service may not be running, this is ok.
        5) Type: cd %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareProtectionPlatform
        6) Type: rename tokens.dat tokens.bar
        7) Type: cd %windir%\system32
        8) Type: net start sppsvc
        9) Type: slui.exe
        10) After a couple of seconds Windows Activation dialog will appear. You may be asked to re-activate and/or re-enter your product key or Activation may occur automatically.

Run MGADiag again, and post the report

I did what you said, the Windows Activation dialog appeared, but it's now saying my product key looks like a predefined one and cannot be used.

    What's happening?

This is my MGADiag log now, looks similar to the previous:

Yep - the Key showing here is the Default (Keyless Install) Key.
You need to now change the Key to the one on your Win 7 package (either the COA sticker on the machine's case, or the sticker in the DVD case if you bought a retail Win7 pack) - use the link at the bottom of the System Properties page for this.
