Remotely access my home PC through my WHS website at www.homserver.com RRS feed

  • Question

  • I used to be able to access my home PC throught my WHS web site. The home PC was running XP when the access is working fine. I recently install WIndow 7 Prof on this sam PC. Now, when I connect to this PC from my WHS web site, IE shows "You are connecting to XXXX"  XXX = PC name. But, I got the warning message.

" ! Cannot connect to your home computer. Check your network connection and make sure your home computer is not blocked by a firewall. If your home computer has recently restarted. try again in a few minutes."

I double check that the PC's window firewall allows remote connection (less secure option). And window firewall allows the remote desktop program.

Can someone help me to resolve this connection problem? TIA!

  • Hi there.

Have your tried to select the older RDP protocol?

Go to the Remote Settings in the System Properties of your Windows 7 PC, select the "Allow connections from computers running any version of Remote Desktop (less secure)".

    Hope this helps.

  • Yes. As I mentioned in my original post, I chose the "less secure" option for compatibility. I don't know why it complain the firewall issue. I am able to run remote desktop from a second home PC into this PC. What are the settings in windows firewall I need to change?

  • Oops, sorry, I missed that part. Does your account have permissions?

  • Yes. The user account has permission for remote access (which requires strong password)

  • I enabled remote desktop access for another Win7 PC on my network. I am able to connect to this second Win7 PC.  However, I still can't get to the first Win7 PC even though I turn off the window firewall on the first PC. There must be different setting of the window firewall on these two PCs. But, when I compare the firewall inbound/outbound rules, I can't find the difference.

Are you able to successfully RD into that client from another client within your LAN (bypassing the WHS website completely)?

  • Yes. From the second Win7 PC within my local LAN, I am able to successfully RD into this first Win7 PC without going to the WHS website by running the remote desktop connection.

  • Was there any resolution to this issue or solution? I'm having the exact same problem with Win7.

    Thanks
