Genuine on top of non-genuine

Bought used laptop that had non-genuine 07. Didn't see it and downloaded my 3rd use of my student 07. product key went through but is still not genuine. Bought student 07 from fry's, so I know its good. I should have un-installed the non-genuine and re-installed mine, but did not. Now that I have used the 3rd download how do I fix this issue?? Hope this makes sense. I'm stupid with computors as you can see. I don't want to hear I wasted my 3rd download!!!! HELP
