Cant get Remote Web Access to work. How do I fix it? RRS feed

  • Question

  • When I try to set up Remote Web Access on Windows Home Serve 2011 it gives me an error " Port forwarding is not configured correctly on the router ". But I am in the DMZ on my router. So my router is not blocking any ports. What can I do to fix this.

  • yes and it did not work.
It may be a router problem and I would suggest taking it out of your DMZ (for reasons of fixing the problem but also noting Ken's warnings) and set up your router to forward Port 443 (httpd:// access) to the server (ideally on a fixed IP). Then run ShieldsUp at www.grc.com to confirm the Port is open and correctly forwarded.

  • I would not recommend putting your server in your router's DMZ. You may have trouble accessing shares from within your home network, and you're exposing your server completely to the internet.

  • How do I get this to work? I am really wanting to get this to share over the internet so I can share my documents and media over the internet with me and all my friends.

I just went into the router settings and manually forwarded ports 443 and 4125 to my WHS. I forward port 80 to another machine on my network.

  • I have my Windows Home Server 2011 in the dmz of my router. Port forwarding is not the issue. Trying to find out if it is something else other then my ports on router. Windows firewall is also off.

  • Are you sure it's not working - have you tried to access your server from outside your network?

  • Again, I recommend you not put your server in your router's DMZ, for security reasons. Let your server configure your router's ports using UPnP if that works for you (something you can check in your router's configuration pages), or configure port forwarding in your router and tell your server you've manually configured the router.

However, while your server is in your router's DMZ, please check to see what IP address it believes has been assigned to it, and run a port scan from your server using e.g. Shields Up! at GRC.com.
