D:\Shares and Dropbox RRS feed

  • Question

  • I want to know if I could possibly corrupt my WHS files if I access them, on the server itself, through D:\Shares instead of the "Shared Folders On The Server" shortcut.  I know that the shortcut is basically just a link to D:\Shares anyways so I wouldn't think it would be a problem but I want to double check.  And before people start asking why not just use the shortcut, it is going to be for Dropbox to backup my folders.  I can't use UNC to create a symlink, it must be local and this would be the only way to do it.  I have read that if you use the DE folder is when you can get yourself into trouble.  Any thoughts?  Thanks

It's not likely that you'll corrupt files. That said, access directly to D:\Shares\etc. is not supported, and some users have had problems as a result of direct access to that folder.

I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)
