Network Discovery Suspended on every reboot RRS feed

  • Question

  •

Every time I reboot my computer The onecare firewall suspends network discovery and puts the computer in Public Place mode. I am on a wireless LAN in my home behind a motorola 3347 router. The computer with the problem is running XP SP3 and I use a 2Wire USB wireless adapter to connect to the network. All other adapters are disabled in the device manager. I have to launch onecare after every reboot go to settings and clear the unconnected devices and change locations before I can access my file shares and printers.

  • A workaround for this issue may be to open OneCare, click on change settings, and on the firewall tab, ust below the On radio selection, uncheck the option to "automatically suspend all home or work...public place."

That means that you will want to manually set the connection to Public when connecting to a public network, if OneCare doesn't prompt you to identify the network.

That doesn't explain why this is happening, but it seems that OneCare is not detecting the "profile" of your network to remember it on each connection.

  • I am having a similar problem in that every time I go online via a wireless network I must manually enable the firewall by changing the settings. This also happens when I change from one website to another even when I am connected to a telephone high speed network that is secure. It is most frustrating as I constantly have to check to make sure the firewall is turned on. My system says that the firewall is switched on to automatic so it should automatically be on. Any suggestions anyone as to how to rectify this problem? The 24 on line help has not been of any use and to me so far has been frustrating. Contact via email to One Care would be very helpful.

  • I have the same problem with my laptop that is also connected wirelessly. However, I always uncheck "automatically suspend all home or work," and OneCare seems to reconfigure itself every time the laptop reboots so that it suspends the network again. I can never figure out how to let the laptop search networks, and have constantly gone to get this fixed by a professional.
