Windows Is Not Genuine - No desktop, mouse or keyboard. RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am seeing a problem with several PC's lately - the PC boots up to a black screen (not the desktop) there are no Icons, mouse and keyboard are disabled and there is a message in the lower right corner that reads "Windows is not genuine"

This problem happens just 1 time per PC (has happened once on 10-12 PCs)

    A reboot resolves the issue.

The PCs are both Dell and HP and were built using images and volume licensing.

Windows 7 Pro 64bit is the os.

The PCs all show Windows as being activated (when they boot normally)

Any Help will be appreciated - thanks

  • I suspect this problem is being caused by security software - it sounds to me as if the boot is hanging, and the SPPSVC is simply one of the casualties in the process.

I'd suggest checking one or two of the machines very thoroughly for malware, and looking through the event logs to see if there are any clues there.

No - I do not work for Microsoft, or any of its contractors.
