    Lost product key due to divorce. Ex  decided he needed it more than I did. Now, I have found out that my product key isn't even legal.  What can I do to get a free product key.

    If you already have a retail copy of Windows XP, you can obtain additional licenses for another computer or laptop by visiting the following Microsoft Web site: http://shop.microsoft.com/special/wal/walinfo.asp

    Please follow these steps for assistance:

    Step 1 is to download and run the utility at this link http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012, then click the Windows tab, Copy to Clipboard, then paste the report into a response in this section of the forum dedicated to fixing issues:  http://forums.microsoft.com/Genuine/ShowForum.aspx?ForumID=442&SiteID=25  The section of the forum you are in now is for general comments.

    Step 2 is to look on the computer or with the materials you received with the computer or with Windows to see if you have a Certificate of Authenticty (COA).  If you have one, tell us about the COA.  Tell us:

    1.  What edition of Windows XP is it for, Home, Pro, or Media Center?

    2.  Does it read "OEM Software" or "OEM Product" in black lettering?

    3.  Or, does it have the computer manufacturer's name in black lettering?

    4.  DO NOT post the Product Key.

    Have your attorney contact your ex-husband's attorney and complain.

    If your husband got the car as part of a divorce judgement, would you be entitled to a free car?

    From a technical standpoint as far as things that Microsoft may be able to help you out with, with respect to: "I have found out that my product key isn't even legal", please follow the instructions above and post your diagnostic output.

    In order to resolve your non-genuine licensing issue, please visit: www.microsoft.com/genuine and click on "Validate Windows". When validation fails, you'll see a button to click on "Get Genuine" which will provide information on your options which include how to acquire a WGA Kit.

    I bought this computer from a second hand store/thrift shop

    and the windows program is not valid,but i was told when i purchased it that it was, what can i do to correct this serious problem so i can continue my research and surfing leagally? please help me hardup and clueless to this matter. Can someone please show me how to correct this problem?I'll
