    Would it be possible to perform searches via either the console or the web interface using windows desktop search?  If I logon to the server, I can use it to perform searches, but cannot access this remotely.

    The search feature on the Shares tab in the web interface actually uses Desktop Search.

    Please expand on this answer... I have a a suggestion for 'connect' but before I do that I want to understand your point of view first. Maybe what I am looking for is already there...

    Well, your go to your server through your browser, with a URL like http://server/. You log in, and click on the Shared Folders tab. There's a search box in the upper right portion of the page; that's supposedly using Desktop Search.

    Theres not much more to say, really...

    I was more looking at the ability of desktop search to actually index the documents that have been backed up.  This would allow a user to search easily across various computer backups and not just the shares from the server.
