  • Question

  • Hi,

I'm planing to pass the 70-503 exam in the near future and I have a question I have no answer on. Is it required to pass 70-536 prior this one or does it matter in which order you pass the exams?

    Thanks

    Slaven

  • You can take the exams in any order... It doesnt matter if you take 70-503 first! But personally i would recommend you to take the 70-536 prior to 70-503... I've two reasons for suggesting you this:

    (1) 70-536 is a .NET foundation exam and a way lot tougher than 70-503, 70-505 etc... So passing it would be a great advantage for you... It'll help you easily tackle all the other .NET exams(as the basics of almost every technolgy are touched in 70-536 exam!)... Plus, you'll have a "morale boost" - something like, "Heyy i passed the toughest one! Lets clear my way through the others!" :-)

    (2) I would never wish that you pass the 70-503 exam and fail the 70-536! That would be disgusting... First, you wont get certified as MCTS; Second, you're morale will fall tremendously!

    So, that's the answer!

  • Per this overview of Visual Studio, 70-536 is a foundational exam.  If you're familiar with VS, then you may not need it.

  • Thanks Charles,

I planed to take 70-536 later anyway. I just wanted to check if 70-536 is required prior taking 70-503 or can I pass 70-503 first and then later on take 70-536. For me personally it makes no difference. I'm just not sure from the information I read on MS certification sites.

  • Thanks a lot for your advice. The only reason I'm planing taking 70-503 before 70-536 is I got a free shot for the first one (and it it is in a relatively short time). I guess I will have to study a little bit harder and tackle 70-536 then before. It's true, 70-536 is a lot harder then 70-503 as it covers broader stuff. I didn't get this with "...you won't get certified...", is there a rule for failing this exam or something?

  • By "...you won't get certified..." i meant that without passing 70-536, you wont be eligible for earning a MCTS credential....

And that second reson was meant to give you a look into the worst-case scenario that can happen if you take the 70-503 first...

Hope you got my point this time!
