SyncToy on 2 computers?

    Question

  • I just downloaded and installed SyncToy 2.1. In limited testing, everything works fine. It is set up to synchronize between my desktop and my laptop. I have it set so I have to manually open SyncToy to synchronize the selected files on the 2 computers. I think for me this is the safest way.

The actual program is installed on my desktop. If I am using my laptop, I have to go back to my desktop to synchronize. So my question is, do I install the program on my laptop also? And if so, will it automatically recognize the Folder Pairs that I set up from my desktop? I looked in SyncToy help, your FAQ, and did a Google search, without finding an answer.

    Thanks, in advance,

    Harry

  • I've not personally tested it myself. I would think maybe better off setting up a second sync on the machine or just always starting it from your desktop/laptop which ever you prefer.

But if you want to and I haven't tried it yet. I do see configuration files located in that you could attempt to mirror.

    C:\Users\[YourHomeDirectory]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\SyncToy\2.0\

My concern is that this might confuse it if you moved it to a new PC.
