windows 7 build 7600 not genuine error. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I have read the other posts andd none of the fixes seem to fix my problem. I have tried everything including purchasing another version of windows 7 (Ultimate) since I wanted the hosting capability of remote desktop anyways. But I still go the same error. I am including the Diagnostic Tool Output for the home premium version since I put it back my desktop since I may put the Ultimate on my laptop if I am just going to keep getting this error on my desktop.

This type of error is likely to be caused by over-zealous security settings or software (or malware).

I'm a little confused, because you say that you bought a new copy of Win 7 capable of RD hosting (which implies either  Pro or Ultimate)- but the installation here is a standard Home Premium supplied by your OEM.

What Security software are you using?

I would try rebuilding the Licensing Store first, -

    Recreate the Licensing Store
    1) Click Start button.
    2) Type: CMD.exe into the 'Search programs and files' field
    3) Right-Click on CMD.exe and select Run as Administrator
    4) Type: net stop sppsvc   (It may ask you if you are sure, select yes)
Note: the Software Protection service may not be running, this is ok.
    5) Type: cd %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareProtectionPlatform
    6) Type: rename tokens.dat tokens.bar
    7) Type: cd %windir%\system32
    8) Type: net start sppsvc
    9) Type: slui.exe
    10) After a couple of seconds Windows Activation dialog will appear. You may be asked to re-activate and/or re-enter your product key or Activation may occur automatically.

Run MGADiag again, and post the report

  • Hi Noel

I mentioned that I had purchased a new copy of Windows 7 Ultimate because I was getting this error with Home Premium. But, after doing a clean install of Ultimate I was still getting this error. So I put the Home Premium back on the computer. The only thing I have done to the computer since re-installing home premium is install Microsoft Security Essentials. Except for Microsoft Security Essentials and Microsoft Office this computer is completely clean. I hadn't even opened Office yet to finish activation.

I will try your suggestion above, but I am pretty sure that I tried this the first time this happened to me, prior to the clean installs of Ultimate then back to Home Premium.

    Cheers,

    Chris
