To
teve Boots,
Hi,i am new to the windows one care,i was reading some of the answers to the questions others have posted here
and you seem to be the person that may be able to help me!!
My computer is only 6 months old and came installed with windows vista, i have not had any problems with the
computer until now!!
I had not checked my email for a few days, and when i checked my email i had a lot of messages, but when i went
to open the messages they would not open!! the whole email system seems to be locked. i can not send mail out,
i can not open any folders, i.e. junk mail, inbox, my folder,i can not empty the delete mail bin. any icon i click on
will not do any thing at all!! that is why i said it seems as if the email is locked or something of that nature!!!
I did however notice one icon that had a BLACK SQUARE going around the icon, but when i clicked on that icon
it still would not do any thing at all. i will try to make a grid below to show you which icon it is that has the black
square going around it, i have called GATEWAY and they could not help me,they told me to call my internet service
but there was nothing wrong with the internet service, so i hope you can help me, as i am not very good at the technical
part of computers. i hope this will help, sometimes i'm not sure if i explain my questions very well. there are well into the
hundred's of messages in my email,my tech support at my internet service said that should not matter how many messages were in the email. they use to help me out a lot with my old hp-with windows me-2000,and you know what
a pain they were, and the guys at my cable co. always got the thing back running for me,with instructions over the phone!!
i don't know any thing about vista,i don't think this is any thing to bad, just some thing i don't know how to take care of.
steve, thank you for any help you can give me!! or any one else that may have had the same problem and can help me!!!
(steve, box 6,has the black square going around it,and box 7,is a mcfee security box, which i don't know what it does.)

box box-6 arrow
with black
square around
the box,it looks
it was clicked
on,or pushed in
but if i click on
this box, it does
not do any thing

Thanks very much for the kind words and vote of confidence.
Unfortunately, I had to move your post to the Off Topic folder since this forum is for Windows Live OneCare - http://onecare.live.com
I assume that you are using Windows Mail in Vista. Is that correct?
If so, this newsgroup would be where to get help:
If you are using Windows Live Mail, then it would be this newsgroup:
If you are using Windows Mail in Vista, what you are describing is the view for having Newsgroups selected. When you are looking at Mail, there are only 4 icons to the right of Send/Receive. In Newsgroup view you will have 7 icons.
It would seem that you may have clicked on Newsgroups and it is trying to download a list of all newsgroups in the background or messages for newsgroups that you already viewed or "subscribed to" previously, which is preventing you from doing anything else with Windows Mail until it is finished.
Beyond that, I believe that the Vista Windows Mail newsgroup above would be the place to go for further help.
