I purchased sony waio laptop last year .for virus problem which I have had to format the hard drive on. Unfortunately, no CD's came with the purchase. I have tried to load windows XP from another XP disk I already had but it does not seem to accept my serial key. I have the original serial key as it is a sticker attached to the computer. The sticker states Sunday, November 9, 2008 7:28 PM

Steelinda,
For many reasons your best option is to contact Sony and order replacement recovery CDs, if available. It's likely that your computer came with a utility to self-burn the recovery CDs but like many others, you apparently did not do that until it was too late.
If recovery CDs are anot available from Sony, try www.restoredisks.com.
If not available anywhere, you can use a systembuilder/OEM CD for the edition of XP you have, combined with the Product Key on the Certificate of Authenticity affixed to your computer, to run Setup and install XP on your Sony. Then, do a telephone activation rather than an automated online activation.
