Data Migration Manager problem...Urgent plz...

Question

Hi,
Recently,I've changed my CRM server. So I uninstalled my CRM 4.0 and re-installed it.Now my server is in one machine and the Database is in another machine. CRM server is working successfully. Its ok.
Now I installed Data Migration Manager in my CRM server machine and the installation has completed without any problem. But when I tried to signin the DMM,this message is showing,
"The Data Migration Manager encountered an error while setting up the Temporary migration database. Restart the Data Migration Manager, and then try migrating the data again."
What might be wrong with me? DMM should be installed in the SQL server machine only??

Try installing the DMM on a PC that has access to CRM and see if that works for you.Monday, January 19, 2009 12:59 PM

Hi,
You mean,I can try to configure DMM in any of the client machines, right?
Already I've successfully installed DMM in the machine in which the CRM database exists and it is workig finely.
So actually I've 2 doubts,
1.Do DMM should be installed and configured in the machine that CRM database exists only? Bcoz as I mentioned above, when I tried to install DMM in my CRM server machine,I got that error message. My CRM database is in another machine!!! But when I tried to install DMM in the CRM database machine,It is working perfectly....!!!
2.Can we install and configure DMM in more than one machine under a single CRM server? If so more than one user
can manage and migrate datas through different machines.

Installing the DMM on the database server is fine. You can also install the DMM on client machines that connect to CRM so that multiple users can migrate data.Tuesday, January 20, 2009 4:13 PM

Hi,
Ok Thank you Donna.
For each installation of DMM,Migration database will be created and the Migration databsae should not be duplicated, right?
If so,how can we install DMM on several client machines with a single migration Database in the CRM Database machine? or Migration database should be in their client machines itself as seperate?

You are correct, the DMM migration database should not be duplicated. There is an option during the installation process to use SQL Express, use that option and the DMM will use services to move the data to CRM. This should work well for client machines. Check out these articles as I believe they should provide you with some good information and suggestions.
