Help and yes I suck at computers RRS feed

  • Question

  • OK so My one care was due to get renew'd in late april.

I bought a new kit at the local store to keep subscribed...

I installed it with no apparent issues except I kept getting a Red warning once in awhile about one care expiring...

I looked at the Forums and read that it can take a few weeks for the warning to go away...

A couple weeks ago I looked and it was showing scans and I assumed it was ok

Today there was a new warning window about it being expired.........??????

I went in to the windows site and it asked me for my Key number to access the Help section....

Well its asking for 20 digits and the Key has 25.??

It seems now that my subsription is expired when I renewd it ??

What can I do now?? I have poured over the Forums and Google but ??

    Please help..

    thank you

  • I think that you reinstalled with the CD and activated with the same LiveID that your expiring subscription was using, so you were never asked for the new key.

Go to http://billing.microsoft.com and sign in with your LiveID for you subscription. Select the OneCare subscription listed and click on the renew link. Choose the option to renew with the key and use the key from inside the box from the new CD you bought and installed from last month.

Note that you didn't need to reinstall. All you needed to do was to renew with the key as per the above instructions. When you reinstallated and activated with the existing subscription LiveID, your new install inherited the status of the original subscription - it was never renewed.

Post your results back, please. If you need more help, we'll give you some direction. Note that your protection is still in effect for some time after expiration, though you will be limited in how you can use the program otherwise.

  • Sorry for the delay in responding - once again I was away from the forum all weekend.

If your subscription shows correct on the Billing site, with an expiration of 4/09, then you have already renewed. Are you now trying to add another 12 months to the subscription with another retail PIN? If so, you are typing the PIN incorrectly, based on the error being returned.

Now, your original post indicated that your copy of OneCare is showing as expired. Since you didn't explain that you had actually renewed successfully with the retail key in your possession. So, if you typed it correctly, it would then tell you it was already used....

So, let's go back to the original problem - the expired notice in OneCare.

If your subscription to OneCare shows incorrect or expired in OneCare

    • Check your PC date and time.
    • Check your subscription status by logging in with your subscription LiveID at http://billing.microsoft.com
    • Confirm that this is the same LiveID shown to be the Subscription ID in OneCare - Help/About…
    • Open OneCare and click "Check for Updates" to have OneCare check for updated credentials

If your subscription is correctly shown at the Billing site, but incorrect in OneCare and your PC date and time are correct, please contact support.
