Thank you for your clear instructions. Sadly this didn't work though - I am still getting the same error message. Any further ideas?

    Thanks

If you had to change any settings, please post a new MGADiag report.

If you didn’t change anything, then the other error comes into play – the registration problem

This is a rare error – and the only times I recall seeing it before we’ve had no success in solving it in the forums.
I’m happy to have a go at it if you are – but it will take a while.

otherwise I suggest that you go straight to WGA support and see if they can help

Please let us know if (and how) MS manage to repair the problem without a repair install of the OS - it would be useful for future reference!

  • Did you have a failed update in this week's updates?  The error concerns an unregistered library.  Try a system restore to a point before your January updates and run the report again.

  • Thank you.

I did actually have issues prior to January.

I am trying to do a backup prior to a system restore however am getting an error:  0x81000019. "Could not create shadow copy.  Please check "VSS" and "SPP" application event logs for more information......"

Any ideas for the back-up issue and then I will figure out how to do a system restore :)

    Thank you!

First check that the appropriate services are running.
    Open the Services control panel
    Click on Start
    in the Search box, type
    SERVICES.MSC
    and hit the Enter key
accept any UAC prompt that comes up, then in the panel look for the Volume Shadow Copy service.
Right-click on it, and select Properties.
Look for the Startup type – it should be set to Manual. If not, change the setting to Manual, and click OK
Now look for the Software Protection Service – again, check the Startup type, which should be set to Automatic (Delayed Start).
If either of these services were set to Disabled, then you will have no Restore points available.
