Windows 7 7601 Not Genuine RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi this is Josh,

I had this computer for about 2-3 years. It came with the purchase of Windows 7. It was about 2-3 days ago when my computer popped up saying it is not a genuine program. Then my computer screen goes black. and on the right hand bottom lower corner  it says Windows 7 Build 7601 This copy of Windows is not Genuine. What is the problem. I am for Sure that it is a genuine windows which I bought from Best Buy. Is it a virus or a worm? Please Help! I also looked at the other forums so I'll be posting this as well. I will appreciate it if you help me. Still learning a little about computers.

  • Somehow your computer appears to have lost its Product Key - the Key in the report is the Default Key, which cannot be activated. Note that this machine shipped with  Windows Vista installed, rather than Windows 7!

You need to change the Key back to the one that came with your Windows 7 disk  using the Change Product Key link at the bottom of the System properties page.

You may need to activate by phone.
