  • Why do I need to buy a computer with home server installed, if I have computer capable of running the software?
    Then where can I just purchase the Home Server software?

  • i got mine off of Amazon for $139.  You can also get a 6 month trial directly from MS, just got to their WHS site to sign up for the trial sw...takes about 2 weeks to get it in the mail.

    If you are going to use your own hardware, and there is no reason why not, just ensure that it has Server 2003 drivers available for anything that need drivers.
    WHS is based on Server 2003, so it's drivers are preferable, XP can be installed, but there is always the chance of some nebulous incompatibility. Also, don't forget that this server, in all probability, will be holding your most important data, so do you really want to trust it to second-hand hardware, particularly, disks which have been used previously?

    One correction to what ncinsguy said:  The trial version is only 120 days (4 months).
