    It says I've activated when I run "activate windows".

    And it won't allow me to install updates. (Updates failed to be installed)

     

    I've got the real thing right here so why is this happening

    First please follow the guidance Darin requested. The MGA Diagnostic results will help us to analyze what may be causing your problem. In the meantime I have more information which may also help you as your situation appears related to Windows Update.  Should this be the problems then your issue would be Windows Update and not Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA) related. This Forum is only for support of WGA. Your issue appears to be outside the scope of the Genuine Advantage forum. Please visit https://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?gprid=6527 and submit a support request for Windows Update problem which you are experiencing.

    You may also consider self help options detailed below.  Please visit the Discussions in Windows Update Forum located here:  http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/newsgroups/reader.mspx?dg=microsoft.public.windowsupdate&lang=en&cr=US  and post what exactly is causing the problem. This forum specializes with WU problems.

In an attempt to assist I would like to provide some information which may help. Should you experience problems while updating Windows please follow the Help and Support links on the Windows Updates page. Here you will find assistance in solving the Windows Updates difficulties.  Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) are located here:  http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en-us which may address questions you have.  Also you may visit the Windows Update Solution Center located here:  http://support.microsoft.com/ph/6527   .

     

    However if you are seeing the activation prompt even though you have been activated already please

    follow the instructions for fixing that issue here at:

    Here are my own results - my machine validates as genuine when I go to site, but I have to deal with the counterfeit alerts every time I log in.  I'd like those to stop.
