Can I just enter my product Key from a purchased package on Trial package download? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have been running the free downloaded trial, It has worked great. This trial expires tomorrow. I purchased Live One Care Today 9/14/2008 at Office Depot.

Not a lot of instructions with software, I loaded the Disk.

Error report that only One Windows Live Care allowed to run.  (Uninstall then re install)

When I uninstall I lose my E Drive (My CD Drive on this machine)

I have tried twice and had to go back with system restore to regain my E drive!!

Catch 22!  Uninstalling Live One Care seems to work, but I lose my CD drive as well, thus not able to Install!!

  • Don't use the CD to install One Care. Install the trial from here - http://onecare.live.com/standard/en-us/default.htm then see this KB article on how to activate One Care using a retail product key - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943781/en-us

  • WesMoore,

Thank you for contacting the Live OneCare program forum. Two things.

First, when you run the trial version, all you have to do is open Live OneCare and click Activate Now. Follow the steps and plug in your Product Key that came with your CD package.

Second, I will need more information regarding this line for further support:

"When I uninstall I lose my E Drive (My CD Drive on this machine"

May I ask how you associate the loss of a drive with the uninstallation of the Live OneCare program. I'd like to know more about this such as exact verbatim error or dialog messages, and details regarding your customer scenario. Live OneCare's backup utility does associate itself with a drive letter for continued backup purposes, but it does not take the drive over entirely.

Any additional information you could offer would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for contacting the Live OneCare program forum.
