Yesterday it had fallen off the bed but remained on and without problem but after shutting it down and turning it on again it said that Windows wasn't genuine. The background is black but the desktop icons items are still there and work. I've also reset and turned off the laptop several times but it's not working.

For some reason your system is not able to properly access the SLIC table that should be in your BIOS.You need to change the Product Key to the on on your COA Sticker, using the Change Product Key link at the bottom of your System Properties page. You will then need to activate by phone.

The information on my COA Sticker is completely faded. Is there anywhere else I could find that information? Also, who is it that I have to call to activate it?

If you can't read the data on the sticker, you have a major problem, as that is your only proof of having a valid license for Windows. If you're lucky your Manufacturer may have a record of the Key - but most don't keep such detailed records (and I'm pretty certain that HP is not one of the few).To activate *any* normal Windows Key, you have to contact MS - most of the time that happens automatically over the internet, but in your case it would need to be by phone (assuming you can discover your COA Key).See what you can read on the sticker using a very bright light, and a magnifying glass - hopefully that will give you some idea at least of the numbers, and you can play with the rest.
